Last sunday was punk day at Fundbureau in Hamburg. Announced as main act were skate and punk legend Duane Peters and his U.S. Bombs. But first there was a surprise.
As support the Hamburg based band Highschool Nightmare played. They offer nice and melodic punk reminding of Green Day, sometimes a bit harder. But this didn´t fit the audience who gave some applause but all in all stayed quite prim. A worthwhile performance anyway, and who has the opportunity should visit them for their next gig. Then Reno Divorce, the main support, came onto the stage. They played for the taste of the audience who finally started to move and get forward towards the stage. Though Reno Divorce perform quite dowdily and you can feel their routine thoroughly it was a solid old school punk performance – nothing new but stable. Then the main act entered the stage: Duane Peters and his U.S. Bombs. And how! This guy really has rock’n'roll running through his veins and at the age of 48 he´s still agile and powerful like ever. Maybe he doesn’t invent skateboard tricks anymore but on stage he has a presence which you only expect from superstars. Always on the move, excentric, the first two songs still wearing his t-shirt, but then showing his tattooed body. He only kept his cap and his Tres Noir Waycooler. After an hour they still played one extra song but our planned interviews failed. He felt sick and tired, he said. Fortunately you didn’t recognize this on the stage.
