Tres Noir Story
Tres Noir Handmade Optics was born when two brothers decided they wanted to create a sunglass brand that fit their needs in style and quality. They also wanted to create a brand that fit their lifestyle and reflected a more real, gritty side of so-cal culture, including art, music, kustom cars, motorcycles, surfing and skating.
Taking their combined 8 years in the sunglass industry the boys created the first pair of Tres Noir’s, the “Police & Thieves”. They were sold to friends in 2005. Selling out in a matter of weeks, the idea of starting a complete collection became a feasible reality. After years of designing and growing other sunglass brands it was time to take their own styles to the public. With a market flooded with cheap glasses having no character and similar styling, the boys saw a definite niche that needed to be filled.
Tres Noir introduced a collection of handmade acetate frames produced in limited quantities that would provide a unique but classic sunglass. Creating a line that would not be mass-produced was the Tres Noir vision. Feasting on a heavy diet of Southern California culture- rock n’roll, action sports, and lowbrow art, the brand came to life.
Running the company out of a garage in Long Beach, CA, Tres Noir introduced its first collection in spring 2006, and starting exhibiting at Car Shows, Tattoo Events, Music Festivals, and random Kustom Kulture events. The reaction and the demand of the product was overwhelming.
In spring 2007, Tres Noir launched its 2nd collection and moved its headquarters out of the garage and into its current office and warehouse in Anaheim, CA. Gracing the faces of some of the top bands, artists, and scensters, Tres Noir became a noticeable player in the sunglass industry.
